Art is Subjective, Unless You Suck at It

The lovely Maryam of Pamplemousse1983 continued her Easy Art series recently with a post about Gesture Drawing. As far as I can make out, gesture drawing uses quick motions and drawing based on short glances at your subject. Check out her video for a fancier description.

I always try to do Maryam's tutorials if I can, and this one was no exception.

One thing, though: I'm terrible at art. You may recall that about me. Here's the reminder that I even wrote a guest post for Maryam entitled Holly Sucks at Art.

However, I gave gesture drawing the good ol' college try. Here are my results.

Gesture drawing is best left to the real artists, because we don't want portraits of phantom Lucys roaming around the art world. She doesn't even have hands!

After my gesture drawing failure, I figured I would do another drawing of my child at play, so here's Jacko drinking some juice. He looks super snooty and deformed in the thumb area.

My one last shot at drawing produced this portrait of Jacko. I don't think it looks like him, but I certainly don't hate it. For someone who isn't an artist, it's not half bad.

What I'm trying to say with all of this is: Don't listen to Maryam. She'll make you think that art is easy and she's very convincing. But, resist! Or else your daughter won't have hands!
