And I tell you that to tell you this:
I have a sincere parental crush on the creators of Yo Gabba Gabba. We are so late to this particular bandwagon, so when Jack asked to watch it on Netflix Instant, I figured that it had to be popular for a reason. I also figured that he'd make it through about ten minutes and get bored with the show. Boy, was I wrong.
There are only 19 episodes on Netflix right now, and please don't ask me how many times we have watched each one--I don't want to show how unembarrassed I am with the numbers. I have no shame because there are so many layers of goodness in this show that I could honestly watch this and only this for the rest of my children's toddlerhood. The obvious benefits for Jack of watching this show (learning social skills and manners, plus enjoying the colorful visuals) are lined with more subtle perks, such as exposure to awesome music from bands like the Aquabats and Shiny Toy Guns. The didactic songs like "Don't Give Up" and "Sometimes You Win" have already been brought up in conversations with Jack about trying your hardest and not feeling too sad if you lose--by him! And honestly, I die over the remix of the show's events at the end of each episode.

ReplyDeleteI LOVE Yo Gabba Gabba and I don't even have kids! The creators are LDS--one actually came to speak at our stake's youth conference last year. Such a great show.
ReplyDeleteYo Gabba Gabba is awesome! My boys are also into Ni-Hao Kai Lan, Wonderpets (Oh Good Gracious, how they LOOVE Wonderpets), Wow Wow Wubbzy, and pretty much any kids show on PBS.
ReplyDeleteUsually, we watch PBS at home since we don't have cable, & netflix refuses to work with my laptop. Nick Jr stuff is reserved for DVD's or when we're at the ever popular Nana and Papa's house.
There's a party in my tummy... so yummy, so yummy! Did I tell you that Josh, Jake, Aimee, and I went to them in concert at the Maverick Center? Hilarious and crazy! Megan Joy from AI was there. :)
ReplyDeletei've been watching the show since gage right after gage was born, so i'm with you on having the songs ingrained in my head. their live show came right before owsley was born, and i was a little broken-hearted when gage said he didn't want to go.
